Vafkeri, Lefkas
Het charmante bergdorp Vafkeri ligt in een uitgestrekt groen gebied, te midden van olijfbomen. Het op 500 meter hoogte gelegen dorp heeft een traditionele architectuur en gerenoveerde stenen gebouwen. De route van Nydri naar Vafkeri is idyllisch, met een prachtig uitzicht op Meganisi, Skorpios en de andere kleine eilanden tussen Lefkas en het Griekse vasteland.
Vafkeri werd wereldberoemd tijdens de Duits-Italiaanse bezetting in de Tweede Wereldoorlog door het verzet dat de lokale bevolking met succes bood, met als gevolg dat de Italiaanse bezetter moest capituleren. Vlak bij het dorp ligt het historische 16e-eeuws klooster van Aartsengel Michaël. In Vafkeri zijn een paar traditionele tavernes te vinden. In het iets grotere naburige dorp Kala zijn tal van winkels en tavernes en bij Nidri, op korte rijafstand van Vafkeri, is de prachtige baai zeker een bezoek waard.
